Designing in My Sleep 2

posted Friday, 6 April 2007

Last night I had another revelation in my sleep.  It occurred to me that a problem we just started to see with the behavior of a development board with respect to reset could be related to some damage that occurred to a different board a couple of weeks ago.  There were debug wires hanging off of a board including the reset line and when I powered the system up once, some wires must have been touching - the smell of digital smoke filled the room.  It turned out that one of the chips that drives the reset line on a different board was damaged.  There was no obvious immediate change in behavior of the development board though.  But now we're noticing issues with the reset behavior and the development board could have been damaged at the same time.
